You are your child's first and most influential teacher.

Community Action, Inc. of Central Texas Parents as Teachers is a free program offered to pregnant or parenting families with children aged birth to five years, in Hays and Caldwell Counties.

The Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum informs, supports, and encourages parents like you by matching you with a trained home visitor who can answer questions, give advice, and recommend services. We call this person your ‘Parent Educator’; this helpful person lives in your community and visits you in your home or another convenient location. They can talk with you about things like:

·         Using your home environment to educate your child.

·         Important steps in your child’s development.

·         Parenting a young child.

·         Setting goals and planning for your family’s future.

·         Taking care of more than one child.

·         Learning new ways to keep children happy and healthy.

·         Understanding how important parents are to their child’s learning and well-being.

·         Getting children ready for school.

Healthy births, attachment, discipline, sleep, routines, safety, and health topics.

The Parents as Teachers (PAT) curriculum includes bi-weekly, 60-minute home visits for your family focused on supporting your journey as a parent of a young child.  You and your Parent Educator work together to plan fun, engaging, learning activities to do with your child(ren) during home visits.    Your Parent Educator will share information about important child development topics, and provide you with support to set and reach goals for you and your family.

"Once a month, the Parent as Teachers program provides an opportunity to meet with other families at Group Connection events hosted by your Parent Educator. Group Connections encourage socialization and interaction through fun activities that can be educational or seasonal. These events can be hosted virtually, at a local community center, or a family friendly destination."
