Community Development & Impact

Together, we can build the community we want to see.

We believe health is the heartbeat of a thriving community. A steady rhythm of well-being sustains families, nurtures opportunity, and allows neighbors to look after one another. But too often, that rhythm is disrupted by systemic barriers—limited access to healthcare, unstable housing, food insecurity, and inequitable opportunities. When the beat falters, it is felt in every part of the community: in classrooms where students struggle to learn, in workplaces where families strive to make ends meet, and in households where stress and scarcity take root. Addressing these barriers is not just about improving individual lives—it is about restoring the balance, strength, and vitality that keeps the entire community alive and connected.

To support the health and vitality of residents in Hays County, Community Action, Inc. is proud to announce:

Health Equity Impact Grants

These grants are designed to strengthen the well-being of Hays County residents by investing in the community’s ecosystem of health, equity, and opportunity. We recognize that just as thriving ecosystems need both quick bursts of energy and steady, sustained resources, so do communities. The Health Equity Impact Grants are our way of helping our community find its steady pulse again. Through the Pulse Fund’s quick surges of energy and the Social Vitality Fund’s steady, sustaining flow, we invest in the creativity, resilience, and brilliance of local organizations. Together, we can partner to create conditions where every resident in Hays County has the chance to live fully and thrive.

The initiative consists of two complementary funds:

Pulse Fund

"Strong Pulse, Stronger Community"

Provides short-term support for events and activities that bring immediate benefits to residents. Like a spark of energy, this fund is meant to create momentum, inspire action, and address pressing needs across the social determinants of health.

This fund exists to amplify the immediate rhythms of community care—those moments when an infusion of resources can spark meaningful connection or support.
