Head Start
Head Start is a comprehensive child development
program serving pregnant women and families with children ages zero to
five. The program provides a number of services designed to promote each
child's health and well being, including medical and dental exams, vision,
hearing, speech and developmental screens, nutritious meals and snacks,
referrals to social service agencies and encouragement for parents to
be involved in their child's education. Children experience and enjoy
a variety of educational activities in a safe environment. The program
offers support for working parents and students through a number of full-year,
full-day slots available through a Head Start collaboration with Child
Care Management Services (CCMS).
Philosophy and Goals For Children's Development and Learning
We believe that all children are unique and special. All children
from various background and cultures are welcome and respected. We believe
that children learn best through play and by actively participating in
classroom activities. The program provides a place that:
1. Plans and prepares an interesting space for children
2. Helps children learn through their daily routines
3. Knows the importance of the relationship between the child and his
or her teachers
4. Works to build a partnership with parents
By participating in this program children will:
1. Establish trusting relationships with responsive, nurturing adults
2. Make friends and feel a sense of belonging to a group
3. Be involved with experiences that encourage discovery, creativity,
and curiosity
4. Learn to solve problems and ask questions
5. Experience success and increase self-confidence
6. Communicate their ideas and feelings
7. Have opportunities to strengthen their bodies
