Head Start is a federal program for preschool children from low income families. The Early Head Start and Head Start program is operated by a local non-profit in Hays and Caldwell County. There are 13 child care centers with 461 children participating. Services include a variety of educational activities, medical, dental care, healthy meals and snacks, and enjoy playing indoors and outdoors. Services are offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. Most children are ages 3 and 5 years old in the Preschool Head Start Program. Services are available to infants and toddlers in select Early Head Start.
