English as A Second Language (ESL) & English Literacy and Civics (EL Civics) Classes

Community Action will ensure that all low-income individuals have access to the education and job training necessary for transitioning into employment, career advancement, and lifelong learning.

Community Action, Inc.'s Adult Education Program provides services in rural counties surrounding Travis County. Its core services include General Education Development (GED) preparation and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. It provides services to adults with limited mastery of basic educational skills; adults who do not have a secondary school diploma; or who are unable to speak, read or write the English language. Day and evening classes are available in many communities. Computer literacy classes are offered intermittently at designated sites.

ESL (English as a Second Language) and English & Literacy Civics (EL Civics) classes assist students in language acquisition through speaking, listening, reading, and writing the English Language.   EL Civics classes cover American history, government, and information related to the United States Citizenship test. The purpose of both programs is for students to acquire the knowledge and skills to become active and informed parents, workers and community members. EL Civics programs offer childcare in the evening.
